When the Impossible Fireplace Installation Became Possible

Client: Copper Builders
Location: Raleigh, NC
Project Type: Custom & Production Fireplace Supply and Installation
Timeline: Ongoing Partnership

Overview

Copper Builders builds custom homes and residential communities in the Carolinas, with services spanning luxury custom construction and other residential development models. Its work requires fireplace solutions that can range from straightforward, budget-conscious selections to highly customized installations.

Copper’s executive leadership first worked with the team at another Raleigh luxury homebuilder and later introduced the relationship at Copper. The client views the company as a strategic partner because its specialists combine product knowledge with candid, consultative guidance—and step into difficult situations rather than simply declining the work.

Objectives

  • Resolve fireplace installation problems without unnecessary demolition or redesign.
  • Get practical guidance on code-sensitive installations before work is completed incorrectly.
  • Support both standard fireplace packages and highly customized client requests.
  • Protect construction schedules through complete deliveries and responsive service.

The Challenge

On one home, a fireplace installed by another provider appeared impossible to vent within the existing design. The prior company would not complete the installation as configured, and the builder was considering tearing out walls to create another route.

Copper also needed support for a customer requesting both indoor and outdoor wood-burning fireplaces. Because the team more commonly worked with gas units, the roof penetration, flue placement and clearance requirements needed to be understood before construction advanced.

Our Approach

A Practical Alternative to Rework

The technical team reviewed the existing installation—even though it involved another company’s product—and identified a route through the floor that avoided major wall demolition. The team completed the solution in one afternoon.

Consultative Code Guidance

For the wood-burning fireplace request, the team explained the relevant flue and clearance considerations before the builder finalized the installation. The guidance was framed around preventing a failed inspection and the possibility of having to tear down completed work.

Complete, Schedule-Ready Deliveries

The client noted that crews arrived with the materials needed to complete the work rather than delivering partial components over time. That reliability supports the production schedule and reduces the risk of repeated trips or unfinished work.

Product Knowledge Across Home Types

The team helped Copper navigate options ranging from simpler selections to high-tech and see-through fireplaces. When the client is unsure of the exact product needed, specialists translated the project requirements into practical recommendations.

Results

  • Fireplace venting problem resolved in a single afternoon.
  • Major wall demolition and associated cost avoided; the client estimated the solution saved thousands of dollars.
  • Another wood-burning fireplace project was guided through code-sensitive requirements before installation.
  • Consistent same-day response on service requests.
  • 10 out of 10 likelihood to recommend the team to another builder.

Client Feedback

Brandco has been an incredibly reliable and knowledgeable partner, consistently delivering expert advice and solving complex fireplace challenges that others couldn’t. Their team is professional, responsive, and focused solely on what they do best, which makes a big difference in quality and service.
