Built to Adapt When the Unexpected Happens

Client: Caruso Homes
Location: Raleigh-Durham, NC
Project Type: Fireplace Installation
Timeline: Ongoing Partnership

Overview

Caruso Homes builds new homes and offers build-on-your-lot services across several Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern markets, including North Carolina. Its “Same Team Concept” emphasizes honoring commitments to homeowners, coworkers and trade partners—an approach that places a premium on direct communication and coordinated problem-solving.

The community management contact inherited an established relationship after joining Caruso Homes. The client’s experience centres on reliability, direct communication and the team’s willingness to adjust quickly when conditions in the field do not match the original plan.

Objectives

  • Keep installation dates, quality and expectations aligned.
  • Work with a provider that communicates directly rather than obscuring problems.
  • Adapt quickly when a selected product does not fit the available space.
  • Resolve issues without allowing them to become avoidable schedule delays.

The Challenge

On one project, two fireplaces were scheduled for installation, but one unit did not fit the space as expected once the team was on site. Leaving the issue unresolved would have required another round of coordination and could have pushed the installation beyond the planned date.

The source materials are inconsistent about the overall service category: the interview file identifies the client as a stone veneer customer, while the specific example and drafted case study concern fireplace installation. The case study should be confirmed internally before publication.

Our Approach

Adapt-and-Deliver Problem Solving

The field team did not leave the builder with an unresolved fit problem. The team returned with an alternative unit that fit the space and allowed the installation to proceed.

Direct Communication

The community management team values the company’s straightforward approach. Expectations, install dates and issues are discussed directly, giving the builder a clearer understanding of what will happen next.

Consistent Follow-Through

Across the relationship, the client described the team as reliable and aligned with the practical expectations of construction: show up, communicate and complete the work as promised.

Confidence Beyond the Jobsite

The client was comfortable recommending the team for work at a family member’s home and reported the same dependable experience there.

Construction plans do not always survive contact with actual site conditions. What distinguishes a trade partner is how the team responds when something does not fit or proceed as expected. Caruso’s example shows the team adjusting the product solution, communicating directly and keeping the installation moving rather than leaving the builder to restart the process with another provider.

Results

  • Product-fit issue addressed with an alternative unit.
  • Both fireplaces installed without the fit issue becoming a prolonged delay.
  • Direct communication maintained throughout the adjustment.
  • Personal referral completed with a positive result.
  • 10 out of 10 likelihood to recommend the team.
  • Service category requires internal verification before publication.

Client Feedback
